Douglas D. Heinlein currently serves as Academic Director for the Graphic Design and Web Design and Interactive Media programs at the Art Institute of Seattle. Mr. Heinlein provides leadership and overall direction through curriculum development, faculty appointments and day to day operations for 35 full and part time Faculty and 400+ students enrolled in the Associate and Bachelor Degree Programs. In 2009 Mr. Heinlein sat with a national Curriculum Task Force for Graphic Design and helped launch a revised program for the family of Art Institutes campuses throughout the United States and Canada. Mr. Heinlein has spearheaded the development of online classroom support and communications at the college. Mr. Heinlein works with Professional Advisory Committee members to ensure curriculum changes are appropriate for the marketplace, local area businesses for Internship Program placement and guest speaker opportunities and other items of importance to the faculty and student body.

Mr. Heinlein had previously led the Design Group at closerlook, inc., a strategic communications and marketing firm. The closerlook Design Group consisted of three competencies: Information Design, Graphic Design and Production. The group was charged with developing the look and feel and overall visual and user experience of web sites, reports, kiosks and public installations. Creative input to all projects was given in a unique open and collaborative environment where best-of-breed solutions were discovered and explored.

Mr. Heinlein provided leadership to a team of staff and freelance, providing communication, art direction, mentoring and training. Mr. Heinlein sat with the Management Team, helping to guide the company's strategic vision and implementing the company's tactical direction. Mr. Heinlein had also been directly involved in the development and deployment of many consumer and business to business web sites and experience design exhibits at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. The release of a Rand McNally DVD-ROM "Explore America" won a DVDI Award for excellence presented to closerlook at NAB.

Mr. Heinlein's previous engagement was as the Creative Director with Rolling Stone Magazine online and the Source magazine online. As Creative Director Mr. Heinlein provided graphic direction to the family of products and directed the production of in house promotional material for magazine placement, conference presence, online advertising and other material. Mr. Heinlein spearheaded the effort to develop and promote new media with breaking technologies and in the past had associations with Intel, Microsoft, Macromedia, P7, Atomic 3D, Thingworld and others. JAMTV/The Rolling Stone Network was sold to eMusic.

Mr. Heinlein was also previously associated with Imagination Pilots Entertainment, Inc., and in 1994 was named the company's founding Creative Director. Mr. Heinlein directed and produced concept, direction, and management oversight for 14 game products. Mr. Heinlein's art direction for "Blown Away" captured the Invision Award (Gold) for Best Graphic Design. Other awards issued to various Imagination Pilot's titles included "CES Innovation Award", "E3 Best of Show", "in! Ovation" and Computer Life's "Best PC and Role Playing Title".

Prior to joining Imagination Pilots, Mr. Heinlein owned and operated a service bureau providing illustration services to the Chicago area. Some of his clients over a 15 year span include some of the largest advertising agencies in the world including Leo Burnett, Tathem Laird & Kudner, Oglivy and Mather and many others. Client accounts include Southwestern Airlines, McDonald's, Oldsmobile, Anheiser Busch and many more. He has developed character design, game environments, user interfaces, set design and new product development for Walt Disney, Viacom, Video Technology Industries, Baxter Corporation, Accenture and many others.
